Random Wanderings

So yesterday was Thursday, and I had something to do on Thursday.  I was going to go downtown and have a guided tour of an old neighborhood with the SSA.  I hitched a ride with Greg and we parked at his office, nice and convenient.  I had a 20 min walk to get to where I was meeting the group, and I was late... commence power walking with the stroller.  I got to the designated spot and saw no one.  So I sent out messages, called... Nothing back, I am upset at this point, how could no one at least answer a text!  Then I looked at the information again and realized I was a whole week off!  The walk is next week. AHHHHH
So now I am downtown Bucharest, with a sleeping child in a stroller.  I decided to walk around and then meet the hubby for lunch.  Best plan I had.  What a wonderful and delightful city this is.  We just wandered.  B really enjoyed the city (hmm maybe she just enjoyed her nap).  We walked a long time. I had to look like a tourist, I was looking everywhere.  The buildings are fascinating, the mix of them.  The old, the new, the renovated, well cares for, rundown, overgrown...  The possibilities are endless.  I was just sorry I didn't bring my camera.  Next time because there will be a next time.  There were little old men and women selling flowers and a few veg on the side of the street.  I couldn't help it and I bought some, for nothing!  They probably won't survive long, as it was a hot day and I didn't get them in water for a long time, but that doesn't matter.  Its the magic of buying something for next to nothing, the romance of old time street vendors.
I am looking forward to next week, when I get to go on that tour and hear some of the history behind some of the big old houses I saw.

September...Already

So we have been here for a little over three weeks.  I still feel very new.  I am still trying to navigate my way around, find the best shops... I discover something new every time I go out.  Today I went out to an SSA event, we had a lovely lunch by the lake.  I discovered that driving here really isn't my challenge, even though I am in the worlds biggest vehicle, and the people follow no road rules.  You are always in defensive driving mode!  Nope, by problem is parking, or finding parking... Apparently there are no parking rules here so technically I can park anywhere.  BUT I can't, because if you park somewhere someone doesn't want you to be then you are taking  big chance with your car.  I learnt this the other day, someone took offense to where I parked, I was blocking a driveway (of the house that I was visiting, with permissions from her).  I came back to my car to find my mirrors and my windshield wipers flipped up.  A Romanian woman that was with me said I was lucky my tires weren't slashed!  Are you kidding me!  so now I am constantly questioning where I park and if it will be okay...  I don't know what to do about slashed tires!
Ahh well...
I can't believe it is September already, where has the year gone?  This is going to be an exciting month, as my sister in law will have her baby this month!  I can't wait to see pics of the little guy, and it will be hard not to meet him right away, but... I am not getting on an airplane until next year!  At the very earliest October, but that will be a short flight to somewhere close, like Germany!  Octoberfest anyone?
I am looking forward to seeing what Autumn is like here, how the leaves change and what it feels like when the weather gets colder.  Very exciting to discover the secrets of season changes in a new country!
Take care everyone!
